Return On Impact Book

David Nour

“Improve Their Condition…”

That has been the advice of a friend and mentor for close to a decade.  So, I advise clients more than be an expert for hire.  Here is how:

  • I deeply believe that I’m in the “people” business, so I like to start every prospective client interaction with a chance for us to get to know each other better
  • I ask a lot of questions to understand the real challenge or the opportunity (never automatically believe everyone is damaged) to impact my client’s outcome
  • Once we conceptually agree on the challenge or the opportunity, I try to create a compelling and clear value proposition in how we could work together
  • We need to establish mutual trust and respect – you in my ability to address your important needs, and me in your willingness to be open to independent counsel and unique perspectives
  • I want to influence you to think and lead differently vs. try to persuade you that our work together is important and should be prioritized
  • I’m determined to let a “pull” strategy – referrals from other professionals or current clients, reading an article, blog, or a book I’ve written, attending a webinar, or hearing a keynote speech – be my marketing gravity, vs. “pushing” myself by constantly knocking on doors to pitch my services or try to persuade others to buy from me
  • I want my ideas to be remembered and repeated, so my litmus test is always “has your condition been improved because of our work together?”

I love what I do and really enjoy advising smart, tough clients who ask questions and focus on the output not input.  They often want to know what’s in it for them versus my methodology.  They are curious about what thought leadership I can bring.  They are action oriented and tend to partner with me in a creative process on how we can work together.  They have a high tolerance for risk and are willing to fail to learn and grow; as individuals, teams, and organizations.
